What's Going On? (The Big Picture):
In a bustling city somewhere in England, a pandemic of sorts has begun. A town has abruptly become overwhelmed with a sudden swell of demons--vengeful spirits that steal the skins of unknowing human beings, that perish in the light otherwise.
There have been so many instances of attacks that the townspeople have become incredibly wary and suspicious of those associated with these spirits and dark magic. Primary candidates include magic users, which include (but are not limited to) witches, necromancers, spiritual mediums and seers.
This influx of those practicing magical craft and the increase in the population of demons has led many to believe that these folk possess dark powers that attract demons to them, and in an effort to purge the town of these hellbound souls, the police and many residents have gone on "witch hunts" to either drive away or kill them.
Of course, this is not an unusual scenario. The same happenings have begun to occur all over Europe. Magic users have been forced to go underground, and the only way to locate one another is through the Guild of Ravens' cant and pictorial language.
As one of these persecuted persons, you will begin in this city of Newport. It is up to you what you want to do after that: perhaps you are there to seek out colleagues, or are a refugee from a yet another city performing witch hunts and have simply chosen a terrible place to hide out. In any case, your goal is to join up with Adeline, who lives on the outskirts of town in a partially ruined and abandoned inn, who has been performing studies on demons for quite some time. This will serve as the group's home base of operations, and members may come and go as they please.
What can be done about the vengeful demons that have invaded Newport, and are magic users truly the reason they have arrived here? These are questions the group will work to answer as they try to eradicate Newport's demons, and perhaps take their skills beyond just the city to restore the Guild to its former glory.
